Everything you need to know about bolo ties, our products, and ordering from Outback Bolo

ALL ABOUT BOLO TIES:

What is a bolo tie?

A bolo tie is a type of necktie made from a braided cord or leather string, held together by an ornamental slide or clasp, with decorative metal tips (aiguillettes) on the cord ends.
Bolo Ties are also known as Cowboy Neckties, Bootlace Ties, String Ties, Bola Ties or Shoestring Neckties
Originally worn in the American West, bolo ties have become a popular fashion accessory worldwide — and in Australia they pair perfectly with country, western, and outback-inspired styles.

Is it offensive or cultural appropriation to wear a Bolo Tie?

Being a recent fashion accessory that first came about in the 1950's, the Bolo Tie holds no special religious or spiritual significance to any cultures.
When Bolo Ties first came about, they were adopted and personalised as a fashion accessory by peoples of many backgrounds, predominately in the South West United States by ranchers, cowboys, and Native Americans. They have since become a universally adopted accessory that can be worn without risking being disrepectful.

Are Bolo Ties Popular In Australia?

Yes — bolo ties are growing in popularity across Australia, especially among country music fans, rodeo enthusiasts, and those who love outback and western fashion. They're also trending as a bold alternative to traditional neckties for weddings, festivals, and events. Outback Bolo is Australia's largest dedicated bolo tie store, offering designs inspired by Australian wildlife, gemstones, and outback themes.

How do you wear a Bolo Tie?

Thread the cord around your collar with the decorative slide sitting at the front. Slide the clasp up close to the collar button for a smarter, more formal look — or wear it lower on the chest for a relaxed, casual style. Bolo ties suit button-up shirts, denim shirts, and western-style tops, however they can also be paired with a tee shirt and worn lower when doing so. They look great with both a buttoned collar and an open collar — both are accepted and stylish.

What occasions are bolo ties suitable for?

Bolo ties are incredibly versatile. They're a popular choice for weddings (especially rustic, country, or outback-themed ceremonies), music festivals, rodeos, country music events, races, and casual everyday wear. They're also a genuine conversation starter at any event where you want to stand out from the crowd in a classy, distinctive way.
Bolo Ties can be a great replacement for a traditional tie or bow tie when wearing a suit to a wedding, cocktail event or the like.
